Who Invited Them

Pelicans from the lakes of East Africa. Lake Nakuru. My eldest brother, Lance, would take time off work and drive us up to the lakes to watch the millions of pelicans and flamingos. They appear as cumbersome creatures yet they are as precise as fighter planes in flight. Paintings should have sounds, if the paint could talk you would hear, too, the beautiful noise these creatures make in their millions. I enjoy the starkness of Prussian blue against the subtle marks of complementary orange. Employing the simplicity of white I try to reflect an uncomplicated existence. The less we have the less we have to lose. They just exist.
